The Law That Was Always Already Yours
Everything in this project, at its root, is one simple claim, said as plainly as it can be said: this was always yours.
There is a proverb worth closing on: *the council does not forget.*
The council, in this sense, is simply a community gathered in its own accumulated wisdom, making decisions about its shared life. To say it does not forget is to say its memory outlasts any single lifetime, any single period of enforced silence, any single government that comes and eventually goes. The council does not forget because the community itself does not forget β even when it is prevented from speaking, even when its own language is suppressed, even when its land and its institutions are taken from it by force.
You belong to a council like that, whether or not you were ever told so directly. The deepest work of every system built on extraction has always been convincing people otherwise β that history and law began only with whoever arrived to write them down, that legitimacy depends entirely on an outside power's recognition, that rights are gifts handed out by a government rather than something that was already, simply, true.
None of that was ever true. It was a story that served a particular set of interests, repeated with enough consistency and enough pressure that it came to feel, to many people, like the whole of reality rather than one version of it, offered by people who benefited from it being believed.
Every specific example running through this whole project β a community that never let go of its own governance, a constitution that finally wrote an old truth into modern law, an ordinary person who filed one request and refused to let it be quietly ignored β exists to hand you a language for something you likely already sensed, at some level, long before you had the words for it: that something has been wrong in the relationship between ordinary people and the power that claims to represent them, that the wrongness has an actual history and an actual structure rather than being simply the way things must be, and that a different way of holding power has existed before, survives in places still, and can be built again, deliberately, in modern form.
The land does not need a government's permission to be real. A community does not need outside recognition to be legitimate. The law β the real law, the living one, the kind that makes any community possible at all β existed before any current government, and it will still be true after every current government has run its course.
The council does not forget. And now, having read this far, neither will you.
None but ourselves can free our minds β and now you carry the whole of what that actually means.

Before Kenya was a nation, it was a shareholder's asset. The name has changed twice since. Look closely, and you can still see what didn't.
- What Was Already Here
Long before any company or crown arrived, this land governed itself β and did it with a wisdom worth remembering, not romanticising.
